Guy: I'm honoured
GUY WILKS' bid to join the factory Subaru team has been backed by Richard Burns' dad.
Wilks is determined to follow in the wheel tracks of his late friend Burnsie, the 2001 world champion and the last Brit to drive for Subaru.
Richard's dad Alex said: "Guy is obviously very committed to the sport and has achieved some tremendous results.
"The Wilks 500 Club is a great idea and I hope he receives the backing he deserves.
"Richard had a lot of time for Guy and I am sure he would have supported him as much as he could.
"There's no doubt we neeed another British driver in the WRC and I would like to see another British driver at Subaru."
British champ Wilks has set up the Wilks 500 Club investment scheme on guywilks.com in a bid to land the third paid seat at Subaru.
He said: "It's a real honour to have Alex's support.
"Richard was a big help to me. We used to speak before events and he would always share his knowledge and tell me things to watch out for.
"He was someone I looked up to. He was a very special driver and a special person. It means so much to have Alex speak up for me."
