Guy: Sanremo is a classic

Guy is revved up for Rallye Sanremo - Italy’s round of the IRC - describing it as a “classic rally that every driver wants to win”.

The Peugeot UK star will be contesting the famous tarmac mountain rally for a fourth time.

He told guywilks.com: “I know this rally quite well from testing and competing.

“It’s quick and twisty with mostly high-grip roads but the weather can turn quite quickly.

“One minute it can be clear skies and beautiful and the next it is dark with heavy clouds.

“Sanremo is high on the list that every driver wants to win. It’s a classic tarmac rally but quite difficult to conquer.”

This year’s rally is condensed into a short 28-hour window. The action starts at 1.20pm on Friday 23rd September and runs late into the night with the first car tackling the legendary 40km Tonde stage at 10:33pm.

Saturday’s final leg starts at 9am with the last of the 13 stages (covering 225km in total) starting just after 5pm.

Guy and co-driver Phil Pugh retired from last weekend’s Mecsek Rallye in Hungary with a water leak on stage five.

But they’re determined to end their first season in the Peugeot UK 207 S2000 with a flourish.

Guy said: “The car is good enough to win and we’ve got the speed to win.

“It’s been a tough year, one of my toughest, but we’re determined to end the season on a high.”

Guy has a two-day gravel test with Peugeot Sport in Scotland this weekend before flying to Nice for a one-day tarmac test with Kronos to prepare for Sanremo.

Good luck lads.
